Grand Junction Skatepark
|
* Outdoor: 'Crete
* Free
* Vert / Trannie / Street
* Rating: Evil Relic
In terms of "modern" skateparks, Grand Junction's "1st Street" skatepark is an evil relic. A crusty-butt bruiser, born back in 1995. A lumpy patchwork of graffiti'd spots and blood clots, crowned with an extra burly "key hole" bowl with a cattle shoot and enough vert to make you wet your pants. But she's a well-loved spot, all the same...
"So first things first, its not the 'key-hole park', its usually called '1st street' skatepark. Another thing, I was disappointed that you didn't put 1st streets pics on the site before you did Orchard Mesa [published in Sep '02], because it is the opinion of any real skater in Grand Junction that Orchard Mesa sucks!!! Even though 1st Street skatepark is not all that great, it is still better than Orchard Mesa."

Since this is 1st Street, and Sean mentioned Orchard Mesa, it might be worth mentioning that you can find another local skate scene at Palisade. It's just a miniramp, but it's a pretty good one. Go get some!
Directions: How about this: Take the I-70 to Grand Junction [in CO, near the Utah border], and exit Horizon Dr heading southwest. At 12th St, make a soft left [south], and continue past Patterson, past Walnut, and finally right [west] on Orchard. As you head west, you'll cross 10th, 8th, and 1st streets where the street will deadend and the skatepark will be on your right - just past 1st Street on Orchard.
